Hello world!

This is my first attempt at blogging. What has brought me to this point? Well, to begin my kids are finally getting old enough (6, 9, 11, and 15) that I feel I may actually have a chance to complete a sentence. Second, I think I have some interesting things to say. Third, I am a board certified dermatologist. My practice has two key components. As a fellowship trained Mohs surgeon, much of my practice is dedicated to the evaluation and management of skin cancer. Second, as a mom/wife/girlfriend, I think I have a keen eye for the aesthetic. I use my training as a surgeon to best treat my patient’s aesthetic and cosmetic concerns with injectables such as Botox, Juvederm, Voluma, Bellafill and Kybella as well as laser therapy.

Okay, I think the best way to get to know one another is just to start blogging about my day. Today is Saturday. It is really the first hot summer day. While I love summer (coated in multiple layers of sunscreen* – of course), I did not begin my day outside. Instead, I got to do one of my favorite things in the world – ORGANIZE!

Yes, I willingly admit that the world feels better to me when everything is in its place. Fortunately, I have girlfriends that share this belief. A couple of years ago, two of my close girlfriends came to my house. We got the champagne and glasses and headed straight to my closet where I proceeded to try on EVERY piece of clothing in my closet – excluding socks and underwear. It was amazing! Not only did I rid my closet of all the things that no longer fit, were no longer in style, etc., but my girlfriends started putting together outfits with items I had never considered putting together. It was mind blowing. (Yes, I realize how shallow I am being.)

Today was the day to return the favor. Angela and I headed over to Jennifer’s house at 8 this morning. Jen’s husband and sons are out of town fishing, so it was the perfect opportunity. We immediately went to work, pulling every item out of Jen’s closet and placing it on her bed. We created four piles: items for consignment, items to be donated, items for the trash, and memory items. If you are wondering, we designated memory items as things such as the dress Jen wore as a bridesmaid in her sister’s wedding. These are things that feel wrong to sell, but have no business taking up valuable real estate in any woman’s closet.

After four hours of laughing and tripping down fashion memory lane, we had revamped Jen’s closet. Dresses were separated from skirts from pants and from shorts. Shirts were arranged by sleeve length. Jennifer’s closet is now a place of dressing inspiration. She may confidently stride into her closet, knowing that everything fits and looks great on her. Girlfriends really do rock!

*In case you are wondering, I always wear at least an SPF 30. My favorite sunscreens are the Elta MD sunscreens. They have the best physical blockers (zinc and titanium dioxide) on the market — in my humble dermatologist opinion. Continue to follow this blog, and I wil
